Although compliance can often be difficult to achieve, it is essential that retailers of all sizes take the steps to ensure they observe rules and regulations, one source has observed.
Jason Zemmel, a business owner, told OnRec.com that smaller firms often find it more difficult to observe compliancy regulations than their larger counterparts, but this is no excuse to not to achieve the standards and reduce the risk of fraud.
"If you are serious about trading online, be it as an SME, Marks & Spencer or Argos, you have to follow the same rules. While it may be an inconvenience and require a certain amount of extra effort, it is very important," he explained.
Mr Zemmel added that there is a "uniform environment" for all online retailers, regardless of size, which ensures customer trust and confidence.
It comes after the Legal Services Commission announced it has joined CIFAS, the UK's Fraud Prevention Service, in order to counter the fraudulent use of taxpayers' money.
